What is an SRL nuisance lockup?

A nuisance lockup is the unintentional activation of the fall arrest system in a self-retracting lifeline (SRL). This can occur during normal activities such as walking or bending over where the speed of payout – how quickly the line is released from the housing – accidentally activates the fall arrest system.  A nuisance lockup can disrupt productivity and can unnecessarily restrict the movement of workers. Nuisance lockups not only reduce efficiency but can actually create hazards and increase risk. For instance, the sudden unexpected stop can cause a worker to lose balance and trip or stumble and drop a handheld object.

The Lodestar SRL is designed to reduce nuisance lock-ups with enhanced walking-working speeds while still maintaining adequate arrest distances. Watch the Lodestar in action here compared to another model that locks up.
