It’s common for crews to want to mark their fall protection gear with inspection status, company names or user identification, especially on busy job sites. When done correctly, marking your harnesses, lanyards, SRLs or other webbing-based equipment can help with organization and compliance without compromising safety.
However, only approved methods and materials should be used. Improper labeling can weaken your equipment and lead to serious safety hazards.
Guidelines for Marking Safewaze Fall Protection Products
- Inspection Log Labels
Use manufacturer-provided inspection log labels to record inspection dates. These are designed to be safely marked. - Identification Tags
Separate tags can be added as long as they don’t interfere with connectors, buckles or other hardware. Tags should be attached with zip ties or similar non-damaging fasteners — not glued, riveted or punched. - Marker Guidelines
If writing directly on webbing, only use permanent markers that are waterproof and quick-drying, such as Sharpie.- Avoid paint and paint pens. These can damage the fibers and reduce strength over time.
- Review Product Manuals
Always follow the specific instructions provided with your Safewaze product. These include recommendations for use, inspection and care. - Regular Training
Ensure all team members receive proper fall protection training and know the safe and approved ways to mark equipment. Always refer to the Safewaze User Manual provided with the specific product or online for additional information.
